This is going to be the geekiest response. I actually built my home system. I purchased the circuit board, the chips, the capacitors et al separately. I then took a few weeks and built it up. Yes, I'm that much of a geek. :)

I currently have a Gateway that I'm happy with. All the ones I have had in past were HP's. Hey Laurie, sounds like it might be time to bite the bullet and spring for a new one. :) Upgrades can only take you so far.

Yea, you're right. But money is tight, so I gotta suffer for now.

My desktop is a tower I built myself from parts I bought, with periodic upgrades as circumstances have allowed. It's in the ghz range, so it's good enough for the forseeable future. My laptop is an old compaq armada. 400mhz but functions fine for what I do.
