I was just wondering if any kareteka here suffer from flat feet, and if this condition impacts their ability to do certain stances and/or foot techniques? I'm slightly flat-footed myself and have some trouble delivering a chusoko-mawashi-geri (roundhouse kick with the ball of the foot). Advice would be very appreciated! :)

A close friend of mine is flat footed. He was able to perform every stance and technique. In Shotokan we kick with the ball of the foot and he had no problems with it.

Are you having problems with any specific stances?

As far as the kick, if you can't do it talk to your instructor about possible substitutions or options.

I have flat feet and have trained for years with them, at the beginning the condition caused me alot of discomfort but after a while that disappeared and now i dont have any problems at all. Just keep at it my friend and you will find your own ways to deal with and overcome your condition.

I never had this problem, but the best student in our dojo has flat feet. He's the champion in all tourneys both at kata and kumite, moves fast and has an excellent technique. It looks like this didn't give him too many troubles into being an exceptional karateka ;)

I have flat feet. Only problem it gives me is with my knees (because of the inward roll of my feet when I walk/ run). I think karate helps though.

I also have flat feet and have not found a problem yet., although I have only been training for around 5 months. I also do quite a lot of running as well and this has not caused me any suffering either.
