What is the logic behind that? Why would a long stance need to be introduced particularly for schoolchildren?

Im not saying it needed to be, but thats the reality of it.

Mr Funakoshi (senior) said "Low stances are for beginners, natural posture is for the advanced" - the long stances are something you grow out of once they've done the job of working on your leg strength.
