Symphony-x Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 Well, I've been doing Freestyle Karate for just over 3 months now and was wondering what peoples views on it are? Is it a good MA to start, I'm really into the sparring part of it all. Willing - Believing - AchievingOrange Belt: Freestyle/Sport Karate - Kickboxing - Boxing
bushido_man96 Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 I say if you are enjoying it, then it is great for you. I am not sure what the sparring in the style is all about, so I can't offer much there. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
Symphony-x Posted November 27, 2006 Author Posted November 27, 2006 the sparring really reminds me of kickboxing on the continous, but not in a ring, and only light contactand not sure what to describe the points as Willing - Believing - AchievingOrange Belt: Freestyle/Sport Karate - Kickboxing - Boxing
obiwansbane Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 for the points... do they just have judges that score what they see through a timed round.... or do you fight till the judge says stop, then they judges call a point, and u begin fighting again?my guess is the first? Brown belt... win trophies... grade... lose trophies... so much fun
Symphony-x Posted November 28, 2006 Author Posted November 28, 2006 in points its stopped when contact is made. and 2 outta 3 judges must say 1 person to hit it for a point to be added.Normal hit - 1 pointkick to the face - usually 2 pointshit with style - 2 pointskick to the head with style - 3 pointskeep in mind, i dnt tend to do much points, so that might be slightly wrong Willing - Believing - AchievingOrange Belt: Freestyle/Sport Karate - Kickboxing - Boxing
Jiffy Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 It's hard to say without seeing the school, particularly because "Freestyle" can open it up to mean just about anything. If you are learning something, keeping active and enjoying it, it can't be too bad. The mind is like a parachute, it only works when it's open.
KaratekaAndy Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 I used to do freestyle, but stopped when the instructor left and her replacement turned it into a McDojo But if you like it keep doing it! "...to stand between the candle and the shining moon..."
Symphony-x Posted February 2, 2007 Author Posted February 2, 2007 yeah i am enjoying it, and the instructors are great Willing - Believing - AchievingOrange Belt: Freestyle/Sport Karate - Kickboxing - Boxing
