ShotokanKid
Yup, that's the one. Thank you!No problem, hope I helped.I remember a discussion about this earlier- someone said it was probably done by a rival system. "What we do in life, echoes in eternity.""We must all fear evil men. But there is another kind of evil which we must fear most, and that is the indifference of good men." bushido_man96
I think the people selling the system actually have some form of MA training, don't they? https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
Jiffy
hehehe, yeah, that's what's ironic about it. I find this hillarious and a tradgedy at the same time.Hillarious that someone can spend thier time creating something like this with little to no research. A tradgedy that would-be martial artists may get turned off by something like this. The mind is like a parachute, it only works when it's open. daizyblackbelt
i find it curious that the sidebar info about the movie references geoff thompson, who is a renowned self-defense expert and previous traditional martial artist. I don't know if Mr. Thompson had anything to do with the video, but it is intriguing.
Elky
That video was obviously created and narrated by people who have never spent any reasonable, responsible time, practicing a martial art.According to the credits it was created by world-renowned self-defence specialist and karate yudansha Geoff Thomson. He is really a guy that knows what's what when it comes to self-defence. I don't agree with some of the principles he puts forward (or at least not the context they're put forward in) but you can't argue with his credentials. His main point though, that TMAers are disinclined to strike first by their training is false, in my opinion. People in our society (from school children up to adults) are scared of striking first because of the law! "If you hit first you are the instigator" is drilled into us from day one. The law may make allowance for pre-emptive striking in defence, but I'll bet it's a bugger to prove! Also, the criminal always has the advantage as they've already made the decision to attack you. You have to weigh up the situation before you decide to strike and the criminal will always do their best to muddy the analysis by acting harmless or distracting you. Your best bet seems to me to be, if someone is acting in a way you perceive as threatening, simply ask them to take a few steps back. If they do, strike up a dialogue. If they don't, then you have grounds to pre-emptively striek in good conscience.i find it curious that the sidebar info about the movie references geoff thompsonThe production quality might be a bit shoddy, but the arguments are just what Mr Thompson tends to put forward. shukokai2000
Quite some time ago I came across a short (5-ish mins?) video on the Internet that depicted a male martial artist training, then showed him walking home and getting attacked. The video was meant to show how martial arts training is ineffective, but the actor playing the martial artist made so many mistakes a well trained practitioner would not make (he did not maintain distance, step offline, or pay attention to his surroundings for example).I was telling my sensei about this and she was interested in seeing it. Does anyone know this video and have a link?Where do i start?First is this is not a "Anti-Martial art video" as previousley stated it is about pre-emtive strikes, and being prepared conshiousley about the surroundings,And to add when talking about distances or bridging the gap, you have no knowlege in the street as there is NO gap/ Distance you can't stand in Zenkusu Dachi etc you will be attacked from behind or social stance etcWhen saying you are over trained does not mean that martial arts is useless, but when on the streets its a different ball game than in a compitition, in other words they are trying to get the point across when attacked you have a split second to react, and with martial art training, you know that many different ways to disable an attacker that you get MENTAL LOG JAM and thats it game over, because you took to long to think about it.the best way to overcome this is to practise up to 2 very simple moves and practise practise practise practise until you do not have to THINK about this when in a situation on the street.there IS a difference between Martial arts and Self defence, and what does and does not work in the street..The 2 fighters at the start are leading Martial arts/ self defence experts who have a wealth of experiance between them... they arePeter Consterdine and Geof Thompson.. if you ever get to train with these guys or watch some of ther DVD's you will make sense of it all................
