it's not really an issue of whether or not she was allowed to - if someone messed with her, she had no choice. we're really good about watching eachother's back. so there was never any real problem with it. the one time something did happen, she was close to the door where there was plenty of air and space, so she sprayed him.

What do you guys get to carry while you are on duty?

they don't allow us to carry knives, but ever since my buddy got stabbed, I carry one. I carry cuffs and freeze spray at all times, a tactical flashlight, which is actually the most useful thing I carry, and on occasion I have my ASP baton, but I never use it, other than as crowd control.

That said, you are SUPPOSED to be licensed for whatever you carry. I'm working on that part now.

Also, just because you carry it does not warrant you using it. The only thing I use with frequency is the flash light. I've only pulled the baton out once or twice, solely to make a group of people back up. I've never pulled the knife and it's rare that I have to cuff someone. spray is no good indoors, as there is too much risk that you will hit bystanders.

iv always wondered were bouncers aloud equitment?

yeah, pretty much what I mentioned above. Some places allow guns to be carried, but that's about it. I also have a pair of knuckles that are made out bulletproof glass that are legal everywhere, but those are for the street, like when I'm walking to the car after work.

On my duty belt I have a hand-held stunner that puts out 500,000 volts (doesn't shoot; it is a contact device), cuffs, and pepperspray. I could carry an ASP, but I don't have one. I have to certify on everything as well, which is, pretty much, dumb. We have to zap ourselves with the stun gun. However, they issue LEOs guns, but they don't have to shoot themselves with them. Kind of silly.

As for the order of usage, when it comes to dealing with inmates, our order is supposed to go zapper, then mace, then physical. Kind of strange, but that is the order I was told.

Oh, yeah, we also have a big, clear, riot shield up there, too.

I used to carry a stun gun. I stopped when I almost stunned a cop who hit me during an altercation. I may start back though. that order does seem odd. For us, it's verbal, physical restraint, fisticuffs / zapper, OC spray. Spray is always last for us, as we want to eliminate the threat without involving bystanders, and spray can affect multiple, uninvolved people if they are close enough.

thanks for all the tips!so does it really matter the size of doorstaff?

Very much so! I wouldn't try to put even an average sized guy up as a bouncer, no matter how good he was (heck, even Gracie!)...it's best to stop the fight before it begins....

Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.
