Recommended Posts

guys i am talking about when moving toward my opponet what would be an appropriate method using the rear foot to propel your body foward or steping with the foward foot and sliding the rear. i saw these two types of types of mobility while wathcing a vitor belfort traing film.

Well, there are several ways of moving towards your opponent. You can step your back leg all the way forward....this is a basic step, or passing step. Or, you can do what is called a replacement step, where you move your back foot to the front, and the front foot forward. This will keep you on the same side, where as the passing step will change your stance.

The replacement step is good for front leg kicking, and the passing step can facilitate back leg kicking combinations. It is good to be able to switch it up, and do both.

Another way to move forward is to just kind of shuffle forward with very small sliding type steps. I do this from time to time to sneak in.

You need to be able to incorperate both of them. This will give you balance while simultaneously making you harder to track. Your opponent won't be able to anticipate what you are about to do.

when you use the rear foot to propel your body foward or steping with the foward foot and sliding seems only feasible in setting you up to throw only punches while bushido method seems possibe for only kicking techinuques. which method would be vaild for proper setup for punching and kicking while advance foward?

You can set up punches while doing any of the stepping methods mentioned, I believe. It is all a matter of practice.

I have noticed that in martial arts, a sparring match is almost always started outside of punching range, but within kicking range. Therefore, kicking is very often the initial attack action (in my experience...this could also be from my styles being limited to TKD).

Try feinting and drawing your opponent in. Do some foot stomps to make them react. If they kick, try to block and side step forward. This will get you into punching range. Try it, and go from there.
