Our instructor is not real big on teaching philosophy. Discipline is strong in our school, though. In the past, a school that I attended and taught at focused more on integrity, respect, and the like. We learned history of the organization, and of the art of TKD in general, as well.

Sounds like the school I attend. Not big on philosophy, big on discipline, but we do learn the history of the art of Shotokan.

Whether or not you study philosophy really depends on which are you study. In Ninpo, we greatly study philosophy. Basically what the true meaning of the martial arts is, and what it means to live an honorable life.

My Kuk Sool Won school claims to teach philosophy, but they don't. When my friends and I do our experiments, I teach philosophy and a seven part code of ethics.

i completly clueless as what you can please explain?

because i am lost?

Bascially, it is the idea that there is an underlying principle behind the Asian martial arts that says you should be learning how to be a good, respectful, disciplined person with integrity, honor, etc, etc, and that the martial arts help you to live life this way. Kind of like that.

Nope- I'm not interested in it, so I shy away from arts that include philosophy stuff.

Our instructor sorta incorporates some life lessons but I wouldn't say it's philosophy. He does however tell the history of kung fu and some of their views, but he doesn't use Buddha or anything. He does use some old Chinese sayings.
