greenbelt_girl15 Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 I was just wondering,In your dojo, or style do you study philosophy at all? Is it part of you training? And if so what is some of the philosophy that you enjoy.I'll start in Cuong Nhu we have a lot of philosophy that is studied, we also have a code of ethics with 8 sections. One of my favorite pieces of the code of ethics is: The goal of Cuong Nhu student is to maintain a pure, simple, sincere, and noble life. God has not given us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of love, a spirit of power, and of self-discipline.2 Timothy 1:7
bushido_man96 Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 Our instructor is not real big on teaching philosophy. Discipline is strong in our school, though. In the past, a school that I attended and taught at focused more on integrity, respect, and the like. We learned history of the organization, and of the art of TKD in general, as well. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
lordtariel Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 We cover philosophy from time to time, but it's more in context to life lessons. Usually Sensei takes about 5-10 minutes every class to talk about things ranging from responsibility to behavior. There's no place like 127.0.0.1
granmasterchen Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 i incorporate many philosophical debates and issues with my students to constantly keep them aware of the responsibility of the skills they possess. I usually don't teach this in the actual class room, but "outside" of class, because to me everyday life and everywhere we go should be considered a dojo and learning experience. I tend to only teach a few select people at a time, at least high ranking individuals and we do intense training everyday due to our limited size and gain more time to train and talk in this way. That which does not destroy me will only make me stronger
cathal Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 Our dojo kun and niju kun ( http://www.iskf.com/nijukun.html ) are taught in our system. .The best victory is when the opponent surrendersof its own accord before there are any actualhostilities...It is best to win without fighting.- Sun-tzu
shogeri Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 The philosphy of the 'way' of the style and how it applies to everyday life and many (if any) of the Martial or Non-Martial conflicts a person may come across.Generally speaking, the MA can be applied, with some modification to most situations that may not even include physical conflict.Conflict resolution. Isn't that what we are working toward in the end?Anyhow...I do not include deep long talks into actual philosophy. The 'way' of a style is no more than 'what a person puts and then gets out of applying the lessons they learned while practicing their art'.I learn alot about myself while practicing, and on the flip side, I learn alot about other people as well. There are many things in my life that operate in the same manner. My family, my job(s), my faith, and all that jazz.Later! Jiffy Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 Philosophy is not really part of our school per-se, but I do try to use philisophical comments and connotations from time to time. The mind is like a parachute, it only works when it's open.
ninjanurse Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 Philosophy envelops our entire curriculum...and integral part of the system. In fact every art I have studied has been the same way...hmm, could there be a pattern emerging here??? Jiffy Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 Apparently, you seek that kind of training... The mind is like a parachute, it only works when it's open.
ggg214 Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 my teacher has never said it,directly.all things are about taichi, but you can find out that it's the same way doing taichi and living a life.
