UrAvgAzn
Any tips towards landing this difficult kick? I actually did it once but pulled a leg muscle and have refrained from trying it again. This is my first post here and I hope I'm doing it right.Keep posting, "The Leaf, Still Green, Must Someday Fall,Such Grief, Such Joy, to Live at All."--T.A. aigaios
540 round as in, tornado-roundkick landing on the kicking leg?Well, let's see. One thing to focus on is picking a target. Once you've figured out where your target is, kick to that imaginary target. Raise the imaginary target and your kick will actually be easier, because your body will naturally try to get higher to kick the target. Also, to avoid pulling a muscle, focus not so much on pulling the leg down to the floor after the kick, but kicking as hard as you can. If you kick hard, and then turn your upper body, the leg will land on the ground without having to force it too much. Hope that helps,-M Cho Dan Hapkidoist and trickster. bushido_man96
Wow, the 540? That's a heck of a kick. Sorry, I can't help much with that one. I think I have played with that one and the 720 a couple of times, but I have never put a lot of work into them. It takes a lot of torque to get this little round body to spin that much! SBN Doug
540 round? Playing with that one in my head and I'm not sure of the technique on that one.I've worked on 540 spinning heel kicks, but not roundhouse. UrAvgAzn
Yeah. Considering I'm a red-belt in TKD, I might not get it that fast. I did it once or twice, but pulled my muscle real bad. Thanks for your tips, and thank you for welcoming me to the forums! Keep posting, "The Leaf, Still Green, Must Someday Fall,Such Grief, Such Joy, to Live at All."--T.A. Blackbelt1400
Its very difficult. This kick is not about using it against your opponent, it is merely a show kick. Since you are not using it on anyone the trick is to make the tornado kick propel you around, not stop in front of you as you kick. This may be very difficlut if you have trained for a while. It took me a long time to figure out how to land this kick. "God gave us elbows for two reasons. Ottman
The most difficult part is being able to actually complete the spin, whether you're kicking or not. Try just the spinning and landing part without kicking until you get it down. Then worry about adding the kick. Also, a few more tips: Remember to delay going airborne until the first 180 is complete.Do not try to jump high, instead try to clear as much distance as possible while in the air (just like trying to dunk a basketball, you don't try to jump up to the hoop, you try to soar towards the hoop. Same concept here.) Tae Kwon Do - 3rd Dan, InstructorBrazilian Ju Jitsu - Purple Belt, Level 1 Instructor
