KamasandSais
I was wondering if any dojo anyones been to has a goal book testing requirement? In our dojo its sort of a strength/endurance thing. like 2000 pushups 2000 situps 4000 kick punches 2mi in under 30 min. ect. I just wanted to ask to see if any other schools trained this way. and to make sure are dojo isn't wierd . "Sword-Chucks yo."Yes, thanks a lot guys. Hey, kamasandsais, that was something that you knew that I did not!! <---blackmail hahahahhaha bushido
bushido_man96
I have heard of testing requirements like this before. My dojang doesn't require them, but I have heard of some like this. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
Gandalf
No, never heard about such test/Peter Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.
french fri25
yes. my old dojo was like that. it seemed that they wanted stamina more than whether or not you are punching and kicking correctly. personally, i dont like that. i think schools should focus on whether your techniques are good, not count to see how many times you can do that technique in a half hour or so. i am not trying to bash your school, i am just saying what i think about that testing system. as long as your school corrects you and makes sure you are doing the techniques right, then you should be fine. french fri25

However, making sure that the students have a level of fitness so that they can handle an altercation is a pretty good idea. I am sure that there is a happy medium between the two. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
UltimateMunky
My friend just returned from the shaolin temple (yes he was promoted from shaolin academy into the temple). And he tells me they either train with "goals" or they go into insane numbers eg 2000 pushups or 10000 situps. Otherwise they give themselves tasks which require a lot of energy as training. For example, they hang their legs from a bar with a bucket hanging next to their legs. Then they have to scoop up water out of a container underneath them. What do they use to scoop ? Those little "bowls" you eat boiled eggs out of. Or the 80 (100?) kg kettle they use to pour tea is also insane.

lordtariel
We have a requirements book that we have to get signed off before we are allowed to test, but it's mainly techniques and participation, not specific exercise goals. There's no place like 127.0.0.
