I want to practice breaking at home. Specifically using kicks. I thought about getting a rebreakable board but about the only one I could ask to hold it would be my wife and she would probably refuse to do it ever again the first time I missed...

Any other options for practice or a substitute for a human holder?

One option I used, get a bench vice, bolt it to something solid (like a bench, funnily enough) and then clamp the wood in.

Note: because of how solid it is, and only being held at one end, the boards will break easier if someone holds them for you.

The mind is like a parachute, it only works when it's open.

You may have to do some looking around, but there are some standing contraptions out there that will hold your boards for you, and it may be more effective than the vise, as it will hold on both ends, and maybe even in all four corners. Unfortunately, I don't have the slightest idea of where to look for them.

If you are mechanically inclined, you may be able to design something like this as well. Unfortunately, I am not so inclined, so I just call up some friends, and buy them pizza if I hit their hands. :D

You're probably looking for something similar to this idea http://www.martialartssupermarket.com/index.cfm?action=moreinfo&itemid=3230

but something much less expensive. maybe looking at it would help you to make your own??

That is an interesting concoction. Not what I had in mind, but it would work.

Interresting device but a little more pricey than I think I'm willing to go, especially since I don't have a bag.. I was also thinking more of something using re-breakable boards and the device doesn't seem to even include that for the price. I think I might try to make something but I what I have in mind is a bit different from that device.

Thanks.
