A_Train Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 A quick question about Heavybags. I currently own a 70 lb Centuy brand heavybag. This is obviously not the best bag as it is canvas and therfore you cannot strike it barehanded. But on top of that, within 2 or 3 monhts of having hung it in my basement, the sand settled greatly and no the bottom quarter of the bag is rock hard, while the top is far too soft. Does anyone have a solution for this, or is it comment with all heavybags?I'd heard there are some that are entirely made out of rags, and that they dont settle like the ones composed of sand. Thanks for any help or advice on better bags. I play a wrestling game online. If you'd like to play follow this linkhttp://www.thewrestlinggame.com/wg.asp?w= 133896
Jiffy Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 That's correct. The ones filled with rags don't have this problem. As to how you will solve your problem, I have no idea... sorry. The mind is like a parachute, it only works when it's open.
Canoe2fish Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 I think I have one full of sand too. (100lb Everlast) I was told that if you take it down periodically and roll it around your floor, it will loosen up. Mine is tougher at the bottom than it it is at the top by far.
bushido_man96 Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 You could ditch it, and get a wavemaster hanging bag. They are very nice, and can be easier to transport if you ever need to move it. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
A_Train Posted November 3, 2006 Author Posted November 3, 2006 Yes, I intend to eventaully get a better, high quality bag, I just don't feel I ot enough use out of this one, and with Xmas coming up I feel its not the right time to be shelling out such money on myself. So you feel that Wavemaster has the best hanging bags? tkdan Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 I have an old everlast 70lb and I was told to put it in a corner upside down from time to time. I've tried it but did not notice any improvement maybe because it is too far gone. Personally I like the wavemaster XXXL free standing bags unfortunately my wife doesn't share my enthusiasm about buying a new bag.
A_Train Posted November 3, 2006 Author Posted November 3, 2006 From what I've read the only advantage to a free standing bag is if you don't have a place to hang a regualr heavy bag. Since I have the room and ability to hang a bag, I don't think I'll pick up a free standing bag (Though I think a BOB XL would be super cool).I will instead likey pick up a higher quality (perhaps Wavemaster) heavybag. tkdan Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 For me it has more to do with being able to relocate the bag anywhere I choose. I have nothing against hanging bags and I would like to see how the wavemaster does over the long term. In fact I want more than one bag because I have three kids in martial arts daddy can not work out without at least one of them tagging along.

I don't know if it is the best bag on the market, but I do know that water won't settle and if you ever need to transport it, or have to move, it should be pretty easy to drain and move. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com

Is it the same foam surrounding the core that the free-standing bag has? I do agree a bag that swings offers advantages over one that wobbles.
