what would a nunchuck do.....

Recommended Posts

I dunno about all this 2000lb of power, I'm not really a big advocate of the nunchaku myself although if you REALLY wanted to do some damage with a similar weapon, get yourself a sansetsukon (sometime known as the nunchaku's older brother :) ) but the question WAS about nunckaku sooooo, I bet if you were to hold both sticks in one hand and thrust to the groin that'd do some damage, at that point you could swing pretty hard to any point you liked. but the good thing about nunchaku (and indeed any chained weapon is that there really isn't much vibrating you have to deal with if you hit something hard at VERY high velocity, unlike a bo.

my two cents

I wish I wish I hadn't killed that fish

since you said body I’m assuming you mean torso. it was shown on the fight science show and it said 2000 lbs of force. if they hit the abdomen it can cause internal bleeding. if you strike a rib it will can bruise or break it . if the strike landed over the heart it could stop or disrupt the heart. i can go into it in farther detail but i don’t want to write an essay :D

Nunchaku was always my favorite weapon. at first it was the twirling ill admit. but now its for the speed and power they generate. when i was active in karate i won 3 weapons form tournaments with them.

When practicing Nunchaku, it is best not to stand under lights....seriously; I have broken more lights that way. :-P

I would not like to see the results on a human body. You probably could, and would be serving a long time in jail

Wing chun helps you find the path to ones inner strength. I am getting stronger

Get a full side of beef or a pork(like on Rocky). Kinda nasty, but you'll get a similar experience.

I'm sure they could do plenty of damage. You can generate a lot of force with the twirling motions.

This is very true.

That's also the downside. The flailing (while it does produce the power) makes itt hard to control

Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.

I agree. I don't advocate the 'chucks as a really useful weapon. However, they have value in developing the arms, timing, and some other things that I can't really think of. :P

You have to remember that Kobudo was the art of IMPROVISED weapons, so the weapon's primary purpose wasn't to attack. The people of Okinawa didn't have access to swords or even that much metal, so they learned to make due with what they had. They did it quite effectively, but I'm sure they would have foregone most of their weapons if they had access to normal weapons.

The problem is, to get strong strikes with the chucks, you have to pretty much telegraph. The twirling is impressive, but you don't get much power when you're choked up one the handles with them. You need to be down towards the other end to get a good strike in.
