kstinson
I train in Goju Ryu Karate and am very interested in finding a kata that I can use my Wakizashi in. I have sometimes used it instead of a tonbo in Sequin No Tonbo at tournaments, however was always penalised for not using the right kind of weapon (I knew it would happen, so the kata was more for show then to actually win something). I really want a good wakizashi kata, preferably from the Goju style but another style would be nice as well. Thanks everyone for your help in this. armanox
Unfortunatly you'll not be able to find a traditional wakizashi kata in Goju Ryu - the weapon would not have been used in Okinawa due to the imposed weapon ban by the occupying Japanese, hence the weapons found in Okinawan styles being farmtools. Neo Dragon
Like everyone else said okinawan Karate doesnt use the wakizashi; but I would recomend that if your a more expierienced practicioner try to reform a kata youve previously learned to match that weapon....Or you could just make one up on your own. Thats always interesting to see peoples own persona Kata's. Thats my two cents anyways.
cathal
It can be said any kata can be adapted for use with a weapon. .The best victory is when the opponent surrendersof its own accord before there are any actualhostilities...It is best to win without fighting.- Sun-tzu
