MichiganTKD Posted February 27, 2004 Posted February 27, 2004 Years ago, before I joined, two (now) Senior Instructors started dating. Our Grandmaster told them: Either break up or get married. They ended up getting married and have been together ever since. Obviously this approach doesn't work for every one. There were times when attractive women joined our class befor when i was a student. Believe me, staying disciplined toward good looking broads in class when you're 18 and single ain't easy. But I wanted to stay professional and listen to my Instructor. Staying true to traditional MA is similar to staying true to a religious faith: Very difficult because the bar is so high, but designed to make you a better person because of it. My opinion-Welcome to it.
Sibylla Posted February 29, 2004 Posted February 29, 2004 I don't think people should openly flirt at the dojo. I am there to train. The worst in my opnion, are the flirty instructor's. I've seen quite a few of them, married and all..that openly flirt and make passes. If someone is really serious to get to know someone in their club, they should at least try to do it outside training. Both parts should also consider that it might not be a good idea to train at the same place, because that can lead to negative reactions and general drama. One should always think about the consequences.
MichiganTKD Posted March 1, 2004 Posted March 1, 2004 Not only that, but I've also known black belts who were a little TOO friendly with certain female students (playing favorites, never yelling at them etc.). I don't know for sure if they were actually seeing each other, but it caused a lot of whispering behind the back. rumors, innuendo, and general distrust. This lack of professionalism can cause a LOT of problems and break peoples' concentration. Not to mention, make students miss the point of why we are there. My opinion-Welcome to it.
MMoudry Posted April 16, 2004 Posted April 16, 2004 Hi all, LOL I am amazed about how long this thread is. I finally came to understanding why the word 'sex' is the most researched word on the net. I see that we can't hide from our basic needs (true oposite of anything martial) even on martial arts forums What I think : Well, I wouldn't mind dating a fellow student at a club (It's none of the instructor's business what students do ouside class) but I am 22 years old and at my class there are only 40+ women and one 18 year old that I don't really like. I say as long as you can keep it out of class go for it. To monkeygirl, I like your picture and find your comments particulary brilliant. How old are you if I may ask? 1.st kyu Shotokan Karate1.st dan Aikido
Ironberg Posted April 16, 2004 Posted April 16, 2004 @ MMoudry LOL... When I read your message the first time, I thought you said you have 40+ women in your class (as in 40 women). I was about to chuckle at the large number for a MA school when I realized just how tired and stupid I was. 47MartialMan Posted August 29, 2004 Posted August 29, 2004 Don't bring a date to practice. I had a student to that, When they broke up, they got into physical combat away from the school. I let them both go.
Oni Posted September 2, 2004 Posted September 2, 2004 I think dating in school is best avioded as it can cause problems during the relationship and afterwards it can affect your training and also your bf/gf's training and if you break up you might not like going to that dojo because that person goes there I personally wouln't date in school as I go there to learn martial arts not pick up girls and while I am there my entire focus should be on learning my chosen MA but that's what i think " You always get some motherf***er trying ice-skate uphill " Taken from Blade.
