jaymac Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 I thought it was very good. Every style is going to vary somewhat from another. I enjoyed his pace and interpretation, but usually always enjoy other individuals kata. A great martial artist is one who is humble and respectful of others.
Menjo Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 I'm not to impressed, not saying that I could do better though! The main reason I'm not a fan of this guy is this:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYcFjErOPXoathletically fit but it was a tad excessive, to say the least. He had a lot of unnecessary movement...Plus he seems obsessed with competitions from his website, as the entire thing is about his competitions pretty much.I'd like to see him compete at the Funakoshi Cup.But I understand he’s very skilled and has very fast movements. Killer Miller Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 His interpretation is not how I would have interpretated it, and the slow tension was a little over-exaggerated, but I still really enjoyed watching his interpretation of the kata just the same... He was actually doing a "tournament kata" interpretation - which was a common trick to ensure the judges see emphasis of technique. I'm sure on his own, he practices a different interpretation for practical application of the kata as well as the tournament application.- Killer - Mizu No KokoroShodan - Nishiyama SenseiTable Tennis: http://www.jmblades.com/Auto Weblog: http://appliedauto.mypunbb.com/Auto Forum: http://appauto.wordpress.com/

Very Hollywood McDojoish...- Killer -Killer- I have to agree with you as I'm not sure what to think of the video at all, but I wonder what organization he is with. ... good music though!bushido_man96-Yeah, I see what you mean. I just hope this guy knows he might be giving kids some bad ideas. Edited October 29, 2006 by Menjo "Time is what we want most, but what we use worst"William Penn
Brandon Fisher Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 I would not perform or demonstrate kata like that either but it was very much set up for demo purposes. I like the element of music and lights though. Brandon FisherSeijitsu Shin Do

Jiffy Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 I agree, from a competition perspective, a fantastic Kata! Hence why he is the champion. As to it's practical use, I'm not quite so convinced. Many moves were exadurated for the point of flashy and fast movements, but the actual speed along the practical line of travel was slow. Not to say that it wouldn't be effective, but just saying the the focus was more on flashy than simple and effective. All in all, a competition Kata.... and a fantastic one at that.
