bushido_man96 Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 I don't think that they could hurt any. As long as you can get the leverage you need right then. But, that goes with just about anything, though. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
baronbvp Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 I think anything that increases your awareness, adds to your fighting or conflict resolution skill sets, or improves your fitness is good for self defense. I just started grappling again after many, many years and I love it. Only as good as I make myself be, only as bad as I let myself be.Martial arts are like kinetic chess. Your move.

I think you make a good point here. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
lordtariel Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 2-You DID not provocate the agressor enought (Insulting is not enought. But if you hit a man with a stick , and he defends himself with a knife , and you kill him breaking his head with the stick, you go JAIL)Actually, insulting could be considered enough to change this judgement because now you're instigating the fight rather than trying to avoid it. It's not self defense at that point, it's two people in an altercation. That loud obnoxious drunk last night could turn into a suit wearing model citizen with a good lawyer at the courts. Without witnesses, it really could go either way. There's no place like 127.0.0.1
baronbvp Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 What about obnoxious drunk lawyers? I never know how to handle them. Only as good as I make myself be, only as bad as I let myself be.Martial arts are like kinetic chess. Your move.
longarm25 Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 it depends its all about situational awareness. the last place i wanna be is on my back in the guard when dude 3 buddies show up. how ever there are times when that position might be better than standing. Kajukenbopr Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 hey, if you get mugged, defend yourself and you dont report it, he can make the allegation that you werent mugged.if you have to fight to defend yourself, contact the police and let them know what happened, before the other guy complains about you kicking his butt.also, beware of any mugger's friends hiding around, u dont want to be on the ground when they come to help him. <> Be humble, train hard, fight dirty
cross Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 If we are talking purely self defence, grappling skills are crucial. They are whats going to help you get back to your feet. Going to the ground and realising you dont know how to grapple is not something you want to happen during a self defence situation. The locks and submissions are not necessarily going to be helpful, but the knowledge of positioning etc is definitely a skill that will serve you well.
bushido_man96 Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 I couldn't agree with you more, cross. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
Rainbow_Warrior Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 yes , know how to get up is the more important grappling aspect , I agree..About chockes and locks....They can take time to get, for example... when I sparr with really advanced mates I may get chocked in 30 seconds .... Or even you may look at gracies NHB in the first UFC...he take his time to chocke or lock a guy , and he is an elite grapling fighter.I think that is posible to ´´ win ´´ a street fight using a submision , but you need your time . ´´ The evil may win a round , but not the fight ´´
