it's spanish navaja fighting knife. it's a full 20 inches from the tip to knob at the end. the blade is 9 inches long by itself.

It makes me pretty happy in its sheer deadly impracticallity, but i'm also learning how to use it (with a wooden replica) and it's a lot of fun.

anyone else know anything about navajas?

Well , as a guy with Spaniard roots (half spanish , half italian) , and spanish heritage. I would say that In my country our cowboys ( named ´´gauchos´´) used knifes derivated from navaja ( and pretty similars) in one on one fights to dead. One fighting technique is covering your left arm with a blanked/cloack/etc and use it as a shield...the other one is to carry the big knife and fight....

and i'm not just making it up on my own either (like i ever would :P ), i've got an actual instructor who is familiar with navaja work, and am picking it up with a bunch of mutual friends.

it's a blast so far.

That's good stuff! Enjoy your training, and keep us posted about it!

Wow, until I started Kobudo I had to scratch and peck for even basic weapon training. Take as much advantage of that as you can. :karate:
