bushido_man96
I don't think that a katana will really have that easy of a time cutting up a quarterstaff made of oak. If anything, what would likely happen is that it would get wedged into the bo, and then probably be wrenched away from you.The other condition is that you are considering trying to strike the weapon. Usually, you will be too worried about trying to defend the other weapon as opposed to trying to set up a well-placed strike to destroy another weapon. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
Sengra
Do fictional versions of real weapons count? If so, light saber, hands down!May the Force be with you young Padawan... Yeah, the lightsaber would be the ultimate weapon if it existed. Did you know that there are seven lightsaber forms, with each individual jedi favoring some forms over the others...? yamesu
Hehehe.I know that Sengra. In reference to the katana,it would prob take an extremely well placed cut to sever an oak bo, more likely than not the sword would get wedged in the staff, but most kendo and kenjutsu schools ive seen train fastidiously in striking to the wrist of an opponent, as opposed to their sword/weapon.IMO, a well weilded katana can be lightning fast, and the damage to bear flesh unparallels any blunt weapon.Although, jo/bo are certainly superior tools.Osu. Kain
Chain! It's strong enough to use it as a shield even against a katana, flexible enough to use it like a whip or rope, heavy enough to use it as a club, and you can also tie or disarm your opponent. If there is an ultimate meele weapon, that would be it.Happy new year, btw. I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. NightOwl
Swords...Western or Japanese; both if used correctly can get the job done. Swords have a great degree of control, is both an edge and pointed weapon perfect for thrusting and slashing (some swords are more tailored to one over the other however), and a range that is niether up close or far, but in between those two. Of course, swords due to the fact that they are not considered a common acessory (as they have been in various societies in the past) would not be practical as since it is virtually impossible to conceal you'd end up having 911 called on you every 2 blocks. That is why knives are the weapon of choice, as they are easily concealed. Is the sword a better weapon? You betcha. But because they are no longer part of society its practcality dramatically drops...this is the case with MOST MA weapons. Sure if someone pulled out a switchblade, iron knuckles, etc on you a properally handled Bo staff would make their weapons look like toys...but again, you'd have a heck of a time actually BRINGING a Bo staff to that point. Still, it's be cool to see a 'Crocodile Dundee' situation play out with a young punk pulling out a knife....'You call that a knife? THIS is a knife!' (out comes katana). Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.~Theodore Roosevelt

stejitsu
On a personal level my best weapon are my legs to try and escape these matters. From a martial point of view i like to use my tiger sticks as i feel confident of using them at a functional level. Without them substitute weapons roughly the same shape can be found in most places so these are my weapon of choice. Wing chun helps you find the path to ones inner strength. Tef
Non-bladed:Quarter-Staff. It's blunt and gets the job done. One solid hit from a QS made of bamboo will suck. trust me. I break heavy clay pots with this thing.Bladed:Jian (Chinese Straight sword). It's fast. Razor sharp on both sides (major advantage), flexible and light weight. baronbvp
Well, the Klingons have a gnarly two-handed edged weapon that looks scary. But I'll stick with my long-serving Excalibur survival knife AKA terrorist sticker. It was strapped to my leg for 62 missions over Iraq and Afghanistan, and I planned to use it once I ran out of 9mm ammo. Only as good as I make myself be, only as bad as I let myself be.Martial arts are like kinetic chess. Your move.
