Greenfire54 Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 Sorry if this topic has already been discussed but I'm a newb here. When I fight, I have to keep myself somewhat at a distance. If I end up on the ground, I seem to struggle trying to get back up. Are there any good techniques that are practical that would enable someone like me to get back up or break someones pin on me? Any ideas would be helpful. Thank you. Hon-Shin-Do=The way of the True HeartMost men stop when they begin to tire. bushido_man96 Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 The best thing you could do is take up some form of grappling martial art. If one is not available where you live, see if you can get with the high school wrestling team a few times a week. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
DokterVet Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 Yep, there are many techniques. For any position you are being held in, there are several different escapes. There's no band-aid solution to being pinned. There are many extremely in-depth martial arts devoted to answering this question, and escaping from underneith a skilled opponent takes lots of training. Amateur wrestling, judo, BJJ, sambo, catch wrestling, shootwrestling, or submission wrestling would all offer solutions to your problem. 22 years oldShootwrestlingFormerly Wado-Kai Karate
cathal Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 I think it really depends on how you are being held to the ground. Do you have any specific descriptions for us to work with? .The best victory is when the opponent surrendersof its own accord before there are any actualhostilities...It is best to win without fighting.- Sun-tzu
Greenfire54 Posted October 6, 2006 Author Posted October 6, 2006 Well for one thing, hypotheticlly(can't spell ) The person would be untrainded, just a normal person having me pinned. The situation is this: I'm on my belly with my hands pinned to my side and the person on his knees above me. Situation two: I'm on my back in a sort of sit up position except my hands are tucked in my chest. ( p.s. this has happened to me before, but only when " Horsing around" with my cousin) Thanks alot guys for the help Hon-Shin-Do=The way of the True HeartMost men stop when they begin to tire. One thing is for sure, being pinned on your stomach, with an opponent on your back, is very BAD! Definitely get something worked out to defend that. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
Sohan Posted October 6, 2006 Posted October 6, 2006 Learning grappling over the internet would be like learning hon-shin-do and kobu-do over the internet. You aren't going to be able to learn much this way.I agree to a point. Depends on one's background in martial arts as well as their athleticism. To become a black-belt level BJJ practitioner one certainly needs to get a good instructor at a good school and be prepared to train hard and long for quite a while. However, I learned most of the required blue belt techniques on my own through books and video and my beloved bjj.org (RIP), and when I finally started formal BJJ training, my instructor didn't believe I had never taken BJJ before. After a short time training, I regularly tap out blue belts and I have had much better than expected success against purple belts as well. Of course, no one can learn grappling without a partner to train with. I would usually just grab anyone I could from my karate class and grapple, preferably with the former wrestlers we have. However, someone who has little prior MA experience will likely not have the kinesthetic awareness to avoid developing bad habits, so this probably won't work for them. With respect,Sohan "If I cannot become one of extraordinary accomplishment, I will not walk the earth." And I definitely notice that I don't have very good kinesthetic awareness. Greenfire54 Posted October 7, 2006 Author Posted October 7, 2006 your right about learning over the internet, its not a good way to learn. I'll see my schools wrestling coach and see what its all about. If he can't help, then i should just keep wrestling with my cousin, after all you learn through experiments and experience Hon-Shin-Do=The way of the True HeartMost men stop when they begin to tire.
