Rick_72
You get back what you put into Karate, or any physical activity for that matter. If you walk in with an open mind, and a willingness to learn, you will undoubtedly benefit from any Martial Art you choose. If you find yourself in a good school, and you'll be able to tell within weeks if the school you choose can be labeled as good, you'll gain self confidence, a stronger will, and a desire to achieve. Once again though, you get back what you put in. You have to work hard to achieve anything in Martial Arts, and with that hard work that you put in helps build your confidence and will.Good luck in you search. lordtariel
I think you can gain self-confidence from any good MA school. But it take more effort than just showing up to class, you have to try hard as well. There's no place like 127.0.0.

wagnerk
Wow, to be able to study karate in Japan, you must be very lucky indeed. My previous sensei actually went to Japan to train for a while enjoyed it alot. He did say that over there Karate is alot more stricter, but I guess that's expected.Apart from that I don't think I can add anything else that hasn't been said already -ken Tang Soo Do: 3rd Dan '18Shotokan Karate: 2nd Dan '

HG
Just remember martial arts require dedication, hard work ethic & belief to get anthing out of it. Nothing will be handed to you. YOU must be prepared to do all the work. Find a good school, their guidance will direct your energy & enthusiasm down the right track. Best of luck to you.Being fed up with all the 'nay-sayers' is a good start.
RichardHangHong
Any MA will help you build up self confidence. But hey, being that you're in Japan, karate sounds like a good way to go. If you can have a school recommended to you that's pretty good. But if not, just go and see a few dojos first and speak to the instructors. Which ever one you feel most comfortable with, go to that one.Good luck! cathal
I changed a great deal after training. I am more self-confident, more outgoing, and definitely much more physically fit. I train regularly and put everything that I am into my training, so I get a lot out of it. .The best victory is when the opponent surrendersof its own accord before there are any actualhostilities...It is best to win without fighting.- Sun-tzu
