bushido_man96 Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 If you can look around on the net, and find some evidence that striking a heavy bag can stunt your growth, then I would begin to worry. Otherwise, I would not worry about it. Use the bag, and enjoy your training. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
ShotokanKid Posted December 27, 2006 Author Posted December 27, 2006 Okay, thanks!I looked around, the only thing I found was younger people shouldn't strike a makiwara. Also, shin conditioning isn't recommended for younger people. P.S. What bag gloves do you guys recommend? "What we do in life, echoes in eternity.""We must all fear evil men. bushido_man96 Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 Bag gloves are personal preference. I don't really use any right now, but I am going to look at Wal-Mart to see what they have.Wrapping your wrists is important as well. You can get them at Wal-Mart as well. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
ShotokanKid Posted December 29, 2006 Author Posted December 29, 2006 I've got a pair of handwraps, and a pair of really thin bag gloves- they're good for speed bag but they're a little thin for heavy bag. My hands are somewhat conditioned now from hitting the thin gloves- at first, I bloodied up my knuckles, but now, they're fine.I'll look at Sportmart. Thanks for your help. cross Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 Just for some extra info, if you dont like the standard hand wraps you can get alternatives that are usually elastic and slide straight on the hand, a little more expensive, but easier to use and ensure you have correct hand support everytime you put them on. An example:http://www.amazon.com/Everlast-EverGel-Hand-Wraps-X-Large/dp/B000E5RBNUIm sure you could find others if you were interested.

Do they support the wrist very well? I am more concerned about the support of the wrist as opposed to the protection that they would offer my knuckles, but that is just me. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com

After all, the gloves are their to protect the knuckles. I have a pair, not those kind, a simpler version i suppose(ill try and find a link). I use them all the time now. They support the wrist very well, ive never had problems with them.
