I would like to get a heavy bag but before I do, I would like to know whether or not hitting a heavy bag could stunt your growth.

Thanks in advance.

You can buy hand/wrist wraps that have velcro built into them (so you don't have to use tape everytime you use them), and heavy bag gloves. I suggest using them combined when working out extensively on a heavy bag. Without some form of wrist support, and knuckle protection you do run the risk of damage to your hand's and wrist's over time, even on a heavy bag. However, I don't think working out with the proper protective equipment will cause any long term damage.

My oldest son (10) had a floor style heavy bag in my garage.

If you trying to toughen your knuckles (which I discourage, because of long term damage), your not looking for a heavy bag anyway.

I'm looking more towards working on kicking more powerfully.

If you're under the age of 16 then it is a common misconception that you can stunt your bone growth. It is a myth though, so don't worry. :)

No, it won't you have nothing to worry about. If you do find the bag getting bigger and it's starting to look like the monolith from 2001 - I'd stop. :D

Well, I got a heavy bag for Christmas- 100 lbs.

I'm working a lot of jab cross punches and mostly roundhouse kicks, with a few front kicks and knees.

Are you all sure? I want to grow another 3-4 inches before I'm done. I'm 5'7", I want to be 5'10" or 5'11".

P.S. I also got a speed bag- I broke the other one.
