HG Posted September 30, 2006 Posted September 30, 2006 Is anyone familiar with this form? Legend has it that Wong Fei Hong himself used this form to defeat several bad monks.Yes, we call it Ng Long Ba Gwan Gwum/ Fifth Brother 8 Diagram Pole. Wong Fei Hung at age 13 defeated a famous teacher known for his left handed fishing pole technique named Sifu Gwam Dai Hung. It's one of the longer forms in Hung-Ga, single ended pole - think of strong spear like movements without the sharp blade tip. 6 & 1/2 points for fighting.

HG Posted October 1, 2006 Posted October 1, 2006 Was Wong Fei Hung a fictional character?Wong Fei Hung was a real person 1850-1933. He's credited with formalizing the orthodox Hung-Ga system & creating the styles most famous set, Fu Hok Cern Ying Kuen/Tiger Crane Double Pattern Fist Form. He was an undefeated fighter through out his life & placed a high value on Mo Duk/Martial Virtue. Also ran a successful herbal medicine clinic named Po Chi Lam in Canton & later in Futsan.Lineages with Wong Fei Hung in them are called Traditional Hung-Ga Kuen. Those without him are called Village Hung-Ga Kuen styles.
cathal Posted October 1, 2006 Posted October 1, 2006 Ah, this explains why I've seen a few films with a hero with the same name then. .The best victory is when the opponent surrendersof its own accord before there are any actualhostilities...It is best to win without fighting.- Sun-tzu
HG Posted October 1, 2006 Posted October 1, 2006 In China quite a few movies & tv shows have been based upon his life. His deeds & accomplishments have reached mythic legendary status. Separating the facts from fantasy, Wong Fei Hung was an extremely talented martial artist who made brilliant contributions to Chinese martial arts.
