Bon Posted May 5, 2002 Posted May 5, 2002 A stone is thrown a distance of 85m at an elevation of 31.5(degrees) to the horizontal. What was its original speed ? Anyone know ? The distance is horizontal, as far as I know... _________________ It takes sacrifice to be the best. There are always two choices, two paths to take. One is easy. van_damme Posted May 5, 2002 Posted May 5, 2002 Well ill have a go at this,i like physics. Speed = distance -------- time So im gonna substitute time for The degrees thing. Speed = Distance -------- Elevation (Or whatever) Speed = 85m ----- 31.5 Speed = 2.7m/s I hope im correct. YODA Posted May 5, 2002 Posted May 5, 2002 Hmmmm...... parabolic curves. Takes me back. Too far back to rember though "Speed" is not a simple factor here as the object will have velocity rather than speed i.e. speed n in two or more planes. (Horizontal & vertical at least). These may help........ http://www.sasked.gov.sk.ca/docs/physics/u5c3phy.html http://www.glenbrook.k12.il.us/gbssci/phys/Class/vectors/u3l2a.html YODA2nd Degree Black Belt : Doce Pares Eskrima https://www.docepares.co.ukQualified Instructor : JKD Concepts https://www.jkdc.co.ukQualified Fitness Instructor (Weights, CV, Circuit, Kinesiology)
Bon Posted May 6, 2002 Author Posted May 6, 2002 I worked it out.. Let u = orginal velocity Rx = u²sin2(theta)/g 85 = u²sin2(31.5)/9.8 85*9.8 = u²sin63 u² = 833/sin63 u² = 13.22 u = +/- sqrt(13.22) Btw, they are good sites YODA.. The first one practically covers everything on projectile motion we need to know. How did you find them ? Whenever I search for physics related stuff on the 'net, I never find anything good. YODA Posted May 6, 2002 Posted May 6, 2002 Guess I'm just good at searching What search engine do you use?
