harmoniouswarrior
[quote="bushido_man96"]I think doing a martial arts sport team in schools would be great. They could do it like some of the college teams are set up, and have a rules set, and travel and take on other schools, like wrestling teams do. As for the students fighting, you have that in almost every sport. Football players and wrestlers are just as bad. Sure, you could tell them not to do it, and punish if they do, but I don't think it will be all that bad.Good observation. I actually have a MA team in a public school (continuation high school), and for many kids this is the first time they have ever really felt respected without having to fight. It would give students the confidence needed to be able to stand up for themselves... Occasionally, you tend to get those that would just use it for fighting, but they will always be bigger and better students that'll teach them who's boss (so to say... )And for competitions, going to take other schools on would too be good! If only over here they would do it... *sigh* Then you could build up a reputation before going National... I envy schools which approve of the idea, and then you get every school involved, and the more makes it better.... Rick_72
I think if martial arts in general were better organized (not having a million different organizations, competing for legitimacy) it would be much more marketable to schools. I think it would have to be started by some interested young people, with a knowledgable adult, as an extracurricular activty first. Then other schools in the district could catch on and go from there.Even in university's its not listed as a sport, yet most every university in America has a martial arts "club" of some sort as an extracurricular activity. It would be fantastic if it could be organized into an NCAA sport, then my kids could go to school on it .

It would be fantastic if it could be organized into an NCAA sport, then my kids could go to school on it .That would be a great thing, I think. Wrestling already has the link from kids to high school, to college, and then to the olympics. Martial arts could have this, too. Personally, and this is just me being biased, I think that Olympic TKD would be a great way to do it, because the WTF and the IOC already have standing rules, regualtions, and wieght classes. Very similar to the set-up of boxing and wrestling and judo. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
