AndyKS Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 Apologies if this question has been asked before, I started Shukokai 6 months ago now and am on my Orange belt.My questions are; 1) how different is Shukokai compared to Shito ryu and 2) Can anyone reccoemned a good shukokai video to help learn katas and combinations etcThanks a lot in advanceAndy
KarateK Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 Andy its almost impossible to find self help videos directed at Shukokai - our club do inhouse dvds, maybe you should speak to your Sensei to see if they have any plans to do instructional videos or if he knows of any? Karate Ni Sentinashi
AndyKS Posted September 22, 2006 Author Posted September 22, 2006 Karate K,Thanks for your reply. In the end, I bought a Samuaria Karate video.Although the Kata's are taken in different series, the demonstartions of them are invaluable and helped me to learn the foundations of Pinan Shodan over the weekend. Thanks again for your reply.RegardsAndrewP.SIf you do read this, how do I put my belt colour on my porfile, I'm an orange and proud of it!
KarateK Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 The belt colour is dependant on the number of your posts - if you see the FAQ at the top of the page it explains it better for youKirsty Karate Ni Sentinashi
bushido_man96 Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 Welcome to KF, AndyKS! Just curious, but does the KS mean that you are from Kansas? https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com

As a result I believe there will inherently be many similarities between the styles. If I would have to hazard a general guess, then I would say that Shukokai is a more sporty (or sport friendly) style than the older Shito-ryu. Use your time on an art that is worthwhile and not on a dozen irrelevant "ways".
