Karate Kata- all styles

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

I've recently been doing a bit of internet research on kata from other styles of karate (i do shotokan). I've seen a few I fancy learning- I've recently learned Junro Shodan via the JKS (Cheers to Scott Langley Sensei!). The other day I came across a White Crane kata- Hakutsuru I believe- and I think it's from Goju-Ryu. Some of the moves look very similar to Unsu.

What I'd like to know is, can anybody post links to good quality videos on the internet, or written instructions for any karate kata? No matter what style. I just fancy having a look and learning.

For everyone's reference- some of the kata I know (and plenty more besides!) are on the JKS website- https://www.thejks.com and I'd recommend anybody just having a look- just to see what they look like.

Thanks in advance,

Nick

I found this link to be a pretty good website.

http://www.natkd.com/shotokan_katas.htm

go under stances and look for kekutso dachi, is it the way you do it?

Did you mean kokutsu? If so, then no. For my system the rear leg is the same, but he front leg has the foot with toes pointing forward toward the opponent. 90% of the weight is on the rear leg.

The best victory is when the opponent surrenders

of its own accord before there are any actual

hostilities...It is best to win without fighting.

I find my best kata when I simply go to https://www.youtube.com and type kata. If you know the name of the kata that helps also.

Try finding ANY shukokai kata!! Talk about mission impossible!

I found this link: http://www.ymsk.clwb.org/shukokai-kata.htm

But no video on it though :(
