Knees are important for all martial arts. I've trained in several and all of them teach and make use of knee strikes.

Hi,

Can anyone tell me if knee's are used in karate, particulary Wado ryu?

Hi Orient

Knee strikes are by far the most used kick in the way that I practice karate. But even when I'm not hitting the opponent with my knee I'm often using it to apply pressure to their stance.

Knee kicks are perfectly legal and one of the most important kicks in kyokushin karate , it can be applied in different forms to different sides of the body (and head) .. Grabbing while kneeing ur opponent is allowed ( in international and black belts competitions ) clinching and kneeing however is not allowed in kyokushin

I use them all the time in muay thi. when I trained karate, they were in the kata, but other than kata and self defense drills, we never trained them. back then, I would not have been able to use one in a fight, becuase we worked them so rarely.

While I don't think they are used as much as in styles such as Muai-Thai, they are certainly used. They are called Hiza-Geri
