french fri25 Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 hi everyone, im john and am a white belt in jeet kune do. ive been doin it for 3 months now and should be testing this upcoming week for my yellow belt. at my school, tests are very brutal and are usually 2 and a half hours long. since my body will be put to the limit i was just wondering if there are any testing tips any of u use. wat do u drink? water, gatorade, powerade, etc. wat do u eat before u test? pasta, chicken, or do u just eat some fruit, etc. also, since tests are 2 and a half hours long. do u think i should go all out and let my body be tired for the last bit of the test or do u think i should go at a nice steady pace. i shouldnt go my hardest and just go a little easier so i can save my energy? i just wanna hear wat u all did. thanx in advance for the advicefrench fri25
alsey Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 welcome to the forums. i pretty much always eat pasta before going to class or a grading (actually, i pretty much always eat pasta whatever i'm doing ), and just drink water. but do what works for you, if gatorade or something helps then drink that.in my experience of gradings, its not really up to you what pace you go at. not sure how they do it at your school, but my gradings are generally just doing what i'm told to do, and giving every little bit 100%. i wouldn't recommend trying to save energy; if your fitness levels aren't up to it then the instructor will see this because either you'll be tired at the end or you won't give it everything at the start. i'd say try your hardest from the beginning, and then you've done your best. you'll probably find in a test you get a little bit more energy and strength that you didn't think you had. also, its your first test so i don't think they'll be too hard on you, though again i don't know how exactly they do things at your school. two and half hours is a long time if you've been doing it for just three months.good luck, let us know how it goes. bushido_man96 Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 Welcome to KF!Alsey has some good advise there. Giving all you got is never bad for testings. As for eating, I would eat light, so you don't get your stomach upset, and always try to stay hydrated. Can't beat good ole water for this.Good luck in testing! https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com

cathal Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 Welcome to the forum, go ahead and say Hello in the introductions section. As for the eating, I'd say some extra protein the day before. .The best victory is when the opponent surrendersof its own accord before there are any actualhostilities...It is best to win without fighting.- Sun-tzu
MisterRadley Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 Welcome to the forum french fri25! I agree with the other members as far as eating goes. Good luck on your test!
Zorbasan Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 welcome to KF.we there is another thread about belts in JKD, i was under the impression that there wernt any, take a look. Now you use head for something other than target.
Jiffy Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 Welcome to KF!As far as eating goes, the guys above pretty much have it summed.Pace yourself on the day. Remember the idea is to test you, not break you. The mind is like a parachute, it only works when it's open.
Zorbasan Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 i will try not to eat anything with less than an hour before activity, makes me sick otherwise. Now you use head for something other than target.
