Here is an excellent website. Check it out! The image

is a panoramic view of the world from the new space

station. It is a night photo with the lights clearly

indicating the populated areas. You can scroll

East-West and North-South.

Note that Canada's population is almost exclusively

along the US border. Moving east to Europe, there is

a high population concentration along the Mediterranean Coast.

It's easy to spot London, Paris, Stockholm and Vienna.

Check out the development of Israel compared to the

rest of the Arab countries.

Note the Nile River and the rest of the "Dark Continent."

After the Nile, the lights don't come on again until Johannesburg.

Look at the Australian Outback and the Trans-Siberian

Rail Route.

Moving east, the most striking observation is the

difference between North and South Korea.

Note the density of Japan.

What a piece of photography! It is an absolutely

awesome picture of the Earth taken from the Boeing

built Space Station on a perfect night with no

obscuring atmospheric conditions.

I think someone showed me this a few months ago, but I'd forgotten all about it. Thanks for the post, KickChick!

Looking at all the lights in Russia really makes me miss it. I lived there for three and a half months last year, and I think I can spot Krasnodar, where I lived...

Great pic - something strange though - how come the whole world is night? Surely it's always day somewhere?

VERY cool pic though! Amazing how many small islands are fully lit up too!

Wow, that is an amazing picture!

Incredible what mankind has done to the world... I just hope our grandchildren are around to see it in its glory.

Be nice if I get this right one day...

Just did a bit of url tweaking and came up with the index page - there's a picture for every day going back to June 16th 1995!!!!! Awesome!

Well I wonder which place is using more power??

As far as I can tell, Japan is the single brightest spot. Of course, that doesn't necessarily correlate to power usage.

I think the higher areas of light intensity correspond with the areas of high population density.

That was a really cool link Kickchick, Yoda. I put both in a newly created folder in my bookmarks "cool stuff".
