Show us how you went!

Sounds like you did OK.

As for suggestions, anything that is flashy works for demos. Don't worry about practical. Biggest flashy movements you can think of. Breaking, Throws and Weapons are always a big hit. Don't worry about complex movements, they don't understand them anyway.

The mind is like a parachute, it only works when it's open.

Jiffy makes a good point. Demoing simple stuff, straightforward stuff would be better for people who know and understand the arts. Inexperienced people dig the flashy, really unpractical stuff.

big and flashy is great for demos, but if the idea of the demo is to bring new students to your school, make sure you do some basic and practicle stuff aswell, self defence demos are good for this.

if you only to big and flashy, people with think "ill never be able to do that" and not join.

Now you use head for something other than target.

I was just going to say that. Little kids love flashy stuff, but if you work with individuals of more mature age, hard and flasy moves are more discouraging.

As a finale we usually have adults v cadets racing against each other doing lunge punch against a pad. Then once the kids have seen that the adults ALWAYS lose we get volunteers up to participate, then a bit of bribery with sweets for the winning team!

We do all our basics, get the dan grades to do a kata, then the kids up to show that its not scary like the audience might think. Then around 5 couples do a variety of stick and dagger routines, focus mitts and sparring.

When our TKD school does demos, we do basics, then some color belts and some kids do some forms, then the black belts will do some forms. After that, the black belts will demo some sparring, and then the black belts will do some board breaking. That way, aside from the board breaking, the viewers get a general idea of what goes on in class.

If we have a mat, the head instructor will sometimes toss me around, too. :D

That I would pay to see

You know, one of the female black belts in my class set me up like that once. She said: "I think you should toss Mr. Walker around for the demo, doing self defense!" What's the deal? :D

Nobody likes me!!!! :bawling:

Just kidding! :D
