Jiffy Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Hi All,I was browsing the website of my old Jiu Jitsu school and I found this little gem sitting there.Do you agree?"Jiu Jitsu can be compared to playing a musical instrument. The simple basics are first learnt, practiced and if possible perfected. After many months of practice, no one would expect to be a Concert Pianist, but should be able to master simple tunes. The same applies to the art of Jiu Jitsu. It takes time and practice" The mind is like a parachute, it only works when it's open.
parkerlineage Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 I think that applies to pretty much anything in life. Nobody has immediate mastery of anything; so yes, I agree. American Kenpo Karate- First Degree Black Belt"He who hesitates, meditates in a horizontal position."Ed Parker
bushido_man96 Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 That sounds about right. To be good at anything, you have to work hard at it. Just the way it is.I tell my daughter that there are two ways to do things: right, or again. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
alsey Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 yeah, that applies to everything. "Gently return to the simple physical sensation of the breath. Then do it again, and again, and again. Somewhere in this process, you will come face-to-face with the sudden and shocking realization that you are completely crazy. Your mind is a shrieking, gibbering madhouse on wheels." - ven. henepola gunaratana
Sohan Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Many of my dojomates are also musicians. We have found that there are many parallels between MA training and developing musical skill. With respect,Sohan "If I cannot become one of extraordinary accomplishment, I will not walk the earth." Zen Master Nakahara Nantenbo"A man who has attained mastery of an art reveals it in his every action." Samuarai maxim"Knowing others is wisdom; knowing yourself is Enlightenment." Lao-Tzu
cathal Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 We occasionally dance to a song now, find it's rythm and then use that particular beat or rythm in sparring. You'd be amazed how a song's rythm relates to fighting. .The best victory is when the opponent surrendersof its own accord before there are any actualhostilities...It is best to win without fighting.- Sun-tzu
ninjanurse Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 I too agree. A nice analogy. "A Black Belt is only the beginning."Heidi-A student of the artsTae Kwon Do,Shotokan,Ju Jitsu,Modern Arnishttp://the100info.tumblr.com/
