parkerlineage Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Besides, there's no organization to oversee that all organizations within a a system are legit, and then there's no organization to oversee the organizations that oversee the organizations within all the systems, and of course you'd have to have an organization that oversaw that organization that oversees the organization that oversees the first organizations...*bang!* American Kenpo Karate- First Degree Black Belt"He who hesitates, meditates in a horizontal position."Ed Parker

Jiffy Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 That's exactly right.... who watches the watchers?? The mind is like a parachute, it only works when it's open.
jaymac Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 This post makes me increasingly grateful that our dojo is not governed by an outside organization. It is just alot of happy people learning a style passed down from instructor to student for many years without the social politics of a larger overseeing group. A great martial artist is one who is humble and respectful of others.
parkerlineage Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 I take my hat off to that, and hope someday to return to that sort of thing...but don't tell the people who currently oversee me! Maybe this is the way it should be. But there are some positives to organizations. It is just that the negative always seems so overbearing, that we forget about the positives. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com

Jiffy Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Isn't it interesting how the times have changed. Years ago, the trend was for school to define their teachings in order to get into governing organisations and reap the benefits such as unity of school, structure etc. Now, people are going more to what you described in an effort to eliminate a lot of the politics and problems that come hand in hand with the above benefits.
