Sure they are busy, but surely they are no busier than a lot of us. I don't know about you, but I have a full time job, a school to run and I'm heavily involved with a car club as well. Not to mention a wife and personal life. Some of you also have kids.

A lot of these legends only do Martial Arts, so they don't have a full time job on top to worry about.

What was Patrick McCarthy's username?

Can I ask who Patrick McCarthy is?

Patrick McCarthy is an amazing karate-ka with a very deep insight into the traditions of martial arts and if I remember correctly, he is the only non-japanese person to be recognized by the dai-nippon butokukai as "Hanshi"

I have done some training with him, read his books, and attended seminars. He is very good at what he does. You can check out his site at http://www.koryu-uchinadi.com/ for more info.

I have been to a McCarthy seminar and found him to be less amazing than you describe him. He was rude and overbearing with many of our members, and was verbally abusive and disrespectful when correcting technique issues. I was wholly unimpressed with him, as he was grossly obese and very egotistical, which was very disappointing as I had awaited our seminar with great anticipation.

With respect,

Sohan

I had heard of him being that way in the past, although my experience was very good, I have heard of several bad experiences from others. But, as far as his overall knowledge of history and traditions, it is pretty amazing what he knows.

I'm somewhat of a local celeb. I've been on local tv doing MA demos and have given demos and seminars at various places around town. Also, a few people have seen me fight, and others have either seen or heard about me at the club I bounce at. Consequently, people recognize me sometimes. Just last week a taxi driver slowed down as he was driving past me. he stopped and said "Hey, aren't you a martial artist?" I told him I was. He then goes "Yeah, you're a thai boxer, right? It's good to actually see you!" and then he drove off.

Also last week, I was at work escorting a couple of big guys out of the club. I didn't know what would happen and they were huge, so I had my hand in my pocket in case I needed to pull out my baton. After work, some people who saw the altercation were talking. I mentioned having my baton and one guy said, "Why, you don't need it" so I asked him why he thought so. He said "Don't you teach muay thai? like I said, you don't need it." I've got several stories of such things happening.

Now I just have to get famous outside of the city...

Boy, that stinks. Waiting for a seminar, and then having an experience like this. I am sorry for you.

This is one thing about meeting our heroes. We want to so bad, but then we find out what they are really like. Sometimes it is good, and sometimes not.
