alsey Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 the best i did in competition was with enpi, though i could probably do kanku dai better. next time i enter a competition i'll probably do kanku or jitte. "Gently return to the simple physical sensation of the breath. Then do it again, and again, and again. Somewhere in this process, you will come face-to-face with the sudden and shocking realization that you are completely crazy. Your mind is a shrieking, gibbering madhouse on wheels." - ven. henepola gunaratana
Isshinryu_heart Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 my tournament kata for empty hand is chinto, weapons is kusanku sai. I hardly ever compete though and when I do its only for inter-school competitions
Jiffy Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Generally, Bassai Dai or Empi. Maybe Kanku Dai The mind is like a parachute, it only works when it's open.
legkicker Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Chinto was the first Kata I really felt that I made "mine". I placed first in '96 USANKF Nationals with Chinto. I've had good success with Unsu in tournaments, as well. I have only tied once and used Superenpei to win with. I haven't competed in kata competition since '97.
Zorbasan Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 I competed a lot with Taegeuk 7. I do like Chun Moo so far, though.i do like chung mu for ITF TKD (actually, its probably the only one i can remember start to finish now)for WTF i like Taeguek 6 or 8, im really not a fan of 7.for shotokan, i really like heain yon dan (thats as far as i am at the moment anyway), but if i knew them i also like empi and teki sho dan. Now you use head for something other than target.
Jiffy Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Tekki Shodan??That's surprising, most guys that are stocky (like yourself) don't seem to like that Kata. The mind is like a parachute, it only works when it's open.
Zorbasan Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 i rekon its a funky kata. and for competition it is short and quick and there fore less opportunitys to forget/make mistakes.and if done properly, can look really good. also, for competition, you will always be facing the judges. Now you use head for something other than target.
RichardHangHong Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 I'm entering a tournament next weekend and I've chosen Jion, Sochin and Kanku Dai as my 3 best tournament katas. Apart from a small tournament I competed in back in May, the last tournament I entered was over 3 years ago! Richard Hang HongChief InstructorSeitou Ryu KarateFind me on Facebook!Seitou Ryu Karate
