well, at our school we have the National BlackBelt Club. That is where we do our weapons. You can be nominated at green belt or higher (4 out of 10 blets) this give the instuctor time to see if you are ready to use weapons.

In my Wing Chun class we can learn Butterfly swords and long staff.

There's a seminar coming up in a month that teaches the basics of Butterfly swords, costs $125 and lasts for a day. Anyone can sign up seeing as it's just the basics being covered.

We learn weapons after we show a little competency, usually after a few months, when after you learn basic stances, and start building a strong foundation, weapons training goes hand in hand with the rest of the training.
