There is ultimate style. Many make claim. You should select a style that you are comfortable with and one that suits your personality. Perhaps check out a few schools. Talk to the instructor/s. Ask them how this style suits my body type, age, balance, etc. Good luck

Also, the other students at the dojo can be important. If you get on with the people there you're more likely to enjoy it and keep going back. Granted, difficult to know by just watching one session first, but something to think about when you have a look and when you're there for the first few times.

To to summarize, the ultimate style is the one which works best for you, your body, and your mind.

There are too many situations that would determine the "Ultimate Style". The schools near you, cost, and alot of other things would factor in as well as to what would be best for you.

personally, I would suggest either Muay Thai or BJJ, or a combination. In between(and this is kinda sneaky) schools like I am right now. If you have Torrent or Limewire or the like you can download instrutional videos and study the hell out of them. I consider myself a Kempo fighter, but I have learned alot from the BJJ videos the gracies have out. Bas Rutten also has a really good workout video out.

Just some suggestions :karate:

Yep, in a nutshell, that's basically it!!! :karate:

The mind is like a parachute, it only works when it's open.

there is no "ultimate style" just an "ultimate style for you"

Now you use head for something other than target.

I reccomend the Muay Thai and/or Brazillian Jiu-jitsu out of those choices. Muay Thai will train you in devestating strikes and clinch work in a live, full-resistance enviroment. In competition is has proven to have the best methods for throwing kicks, punches, elbows and knees.

BJJ will allow you to escape bad positions (in case you get tackled, for example), as well as attack using grappling techniques, control an attacker and to stay on your feet if neccessary. Your BJJ training will be live and full-resistance.

These would be good choices, for both self-defense and conditioning reasons.

To be honest with you, it will depend on how you train more than the style. Also important will be the methods of instruction. Your best bet is to try to sit down and watch a class of each, and see which one fits the bill for you. You may also consider taking a couple of the styles, like boxing for standup, and BJJ for grappling. Just a thought.

By the way, welcome to KF! :karate:

I agree with everything bushido_man96 said, person I would try muay thai but it's youre choice.
