Brandon Fisher
Yes I agree it is unacceptable. If he reaks of alcohol he would not be allowed in the dojo with me. Its a very strict rule I have. I would approach your sensei about this, I have a student that is not very clean that we are trying to get him to clean up and it has made a difference. SitsWithFists
wow- thx for the quick replies everyone. I ended up talking to my Sensei and he said he is going to pull the person aside. if that doesnt work, he will ask the him to leave. I dont think he has ever been spoken to because he's new, and they usually pair him with me. Great forum here

Jiffy
I think this is a definate concern. Not just for you and the other students (as already mentioned), but also for himself. If he has just taken up a new passtime, is smelling like booze and is lacking in personal hygene, that cries out "Mental Breakdown" to me. Maybe he's going through a hard time with something? Either way, for both your sake and his, I hope the situation is resolved. The mind is like a parachute, it only works when it's open.
bushido_man96
Wow, wreaking of alcohol. Not good, he could be a liability to himself and everyone in the school. Hopefully the instructor does something about him. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
blackxpress
It's bad enough to show up dirty, but smelling of alcohol? I wouldn't dream of drinking before training. I don't have anything against drinking, per se, but I really don't think alcohol and MA training go together. I want the people I train with to have clear heads in the dojo. It's too easy to injure someone. I sure don't want to be practicing self defense moves with someone whose judgment and reactions are impaired. You need to have a serious talk with you Sensei about this.
Zorbasan
does the guy seem to be drunk, or does he just smell of alcohol?not that im saying its ok, but just curious because if he is drunk then he should definitely not be able to train because it is dangerous for those he goes against. Now you use head for something other than target.
SitsWithFists
He doesnt act drunk - just wreaks of alcohol - and he has a serious hygiene problem. I quit drinking years ago and started MA to live a healthy life - so naturally he's a real problem and a distraction for me
RichardHangHong
Speak to the instructor and ask him to do something about it. Tell him you can't pair up with someone so unhygeinic. If you're doing grappling with the guy it's a health & safety risk if he has open cuts on him.If you get paired up with him just sit out and tell the guy you won't work with him. I'm sure others in the dojo feel the same but just be polite about it. koryu
that is absolutely rediculous. it is a part of our dojo kun to be neat and clean when we come to class, otherwise you're not allowed to participate. i would flat out refuse to work with such a person.
