Rick_72 Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 Haven't seen it since the 80's but I believe it's just a hopping front kick with some useless arm posturing. We practice them sometimes in class(the hopping front kick not the usless arm posturing ) The move didn't make a lotta since since he came down full weight on his supposed injured leg for a moment.Actually the arm posture has a very good use...unfortunately the movie didn't really show its bunkai.Your bringing your hands up, in a fan like motion, to defend against someone grabing ahold of you. Once your hands make contact with your opponents wrists your grabbing them, pulling them down to your sides, while at the same time executing a front snap kick to the groin or knee. Its executed while your opponent is trying to grab you, not after they already have. Try it, its a pretty simple technique.
parkerlineage Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 Parkerlineage, while your post is indeed funny, the amount of phillosphy in the Karate Kid series is HUGE! Even now when I watch it for the 50th or more time, I still find bits of phillosophy that fascinate me.It was never my intent to put down on the Karate Kid, and I apologize if anyone took it that way. Jiffy Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 hahaha, nah it's all good. I took it in Jest. The mind is like a parachute, it only works when it's open.
Jiffy Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 there is a diffence to almost any attack im aware of...stupid movies.Correct! Almost every single technique has a counter.I think Zorbs was just pointing out the humerous nature of good ol' Mr Miyagi. I love that dude! The mind is like a parachute, it only works when it's open.
jaymac Posted August 19, 2006 Posted August 19, 2006 Now I do love to watch the Karate Kid, but really, if you were standing opposite Macchio in a ring while he was doing a crane stance with hands held up high, what do you think his next move is going to be a kick, that's right. All in all, the Karate Kid movie was great and a huge boost for Martial Arts everywhere. A great martial artist is one who is humble and respectful of others.
parkerlineage Posted August 19, 2006 Posted August 19, 2006 I would just flying knife edge straight into his chest. American Kenpo Karate- First Degree Black Belt"He who hesitates, meditates in a horizontal position."Ed Parker
Shui Tora Posted August 19, 2006 Posted August 19, 2006 I would just flying knife edge straight into his chest.Very simple! I like it! I think it could be Some Chinese Martial Art, or even Goju-Ryu... But then I have seen Goju being parcticed and it is different to the film... Could be a Mixed Art? Tef Posted August 20, 2006 Posted August 20, 2006 I think the crane stance kick is not only flashy but can work in tandem with a good strike. maybe you could fake a kick, then do a crane beak strike to temples or eyes. The opponent would probably block the kick with a downward block because s/he watched too many Karate kid movies. If s/hes not a BB in cinemaphotography-ryu, narrativeimprobability fu or ignorance do, you're kinda screwed. Destined To Bring Light
legkicker Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 I would just flying knife edge straight into his chest.Very simple! I like it! I think it could be Some Chinese Martial Art, or even Goju-Ryu... But then I have seen Goju being parcticed and it is different to the film... Could be a Mixed Art?to anyone that is still wondering what arts were in the karate kid go back to page one and read my post. It was Tang Soo Do and Shito ryu if you count the fact that Demura was Morita's double. Pat Johnson was the coreographer and he is a Tang Soo Do 9th dan.
Jiffy Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 True, but the storyline seems to be taken more so from GojuRyu... not that it really matters. The mind is like a parachute, it only works when it's open.
