bushido_man96
I believe the major martial arts in the karate kid movies were:Cinematography Ryu - The art of having the camera make you look good.Ignorance Do - The art of relying on the fact that virtually nobody knows martial arts.Narrativeimprobability Fu - The art of making script writers let you winI happen to have a black belt in all of those - although, in my only MA film (it's a 9 minute ninja movie that we made for an English project), I was the bad guy, so I had to die. Therefore, my friend is really better than I am in Narrativeimprobability Fu. But I'm practicing! Very nice. I need to find a school that teaches those styles. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
Zorbasan
ive seen something similar to the "Miyagi Family Kata" being performed by a goju.i also know you can buy the "secret to miyagi family karate" in Bali.I think it has the base of goju, with some cinema-fu thrown in. Now you use head for something other than target.
legkicker
That's cool info, legkicker. I didn't know that Seagal had a BB in shito ryu.I didn't know that, and I've talked to him in person. He's got rank in kendo, judo, aikido and karate, but I was unaware that the karate style was shito ryu. "Sensei Seagal holds black belts in Karate, Aikido and Kenjutsu and has also studied Judo, Kali, Kendo, Eastern Philosophy, Shinto Religion, and the Holistic Arts (including Acupuncture, Herbology and Calligraphy). Seagal is a Shodan in Shitoryu Karate and has trained briefly under Master Fumio Demura."I got that info from this site: http://www.journaled.com/MA/Aikido/SSeagal/main.htmBut I may have been hasty, when I think more about it I don't know if Demura is who Seagal got his Shito Ryu rank from. I don't think I ever heard who he got it from but if he had a shodan I wouldn't be shocked. considering he is a nanadan in Aikido. I've known for years about Norris being a Shito Ryu black belt but I just found out about a month ago that it was Demura that he got it from. I noticed in the really crappy Next Karate kid movie that Hillary Swank starred, that she was doing a tekki Kata. I agree though that it seemed it was a great mixture of different styles in all these movies. I practice Shotokan and have yet to see the famous kick from a crane stance that Macchio did performed at our school. A great martial artist is one who is humble and respectful of others. parkerlineage
I practice Shotokan and have yet to see the famous kick from a crane stance that Macchio did performed at our school. We use it messing around, sometimes, as a joke when somebody tries some move that's way too flashy and has a 99.9% chance of never working, ever. Rick_72
Yeah, in Shorin Ryu we have a kick from a similar crane stance (similar looking to the famous "Karate Kid" kick), however, one of our feet is still firmly rooted to the ground when we execute it. lordtariel
Haven't seen it since the 80's but I believe it's just a hopping front kick with some useless arm posturing. We practice them sometimes in class(the hopping front kick not the usless arm posturing ) The move didn't make a lotta since since he came down full weight on his supposed injured leg for a moment. Jiffy
Parkerlineage, while your post is indeed funny, the amount of phillosphy in the Karate Kid series is HUGE! Even now when I watch it for the 50th or more time, I still find bits of phillosophy that fascinate me. The mind is like a parachute, it only works when it's open. Zorbasan
i agreein fact, the point of karate kid isnt in the karate at all, its in the wisdom of mr miyagi.as for the crane kick, as miyagi says "if done right, no can defence"tho in no. 2 chozen defends it nicely. Now you use head for something other than target.
