elbows_and_knees
Escrima/Arnis is different from Kali, but they are rather similar. Either one would be good for you in the terms you specifiy; I believe Kail does work with knives and other bladed weapons as well. All three work with knives. elbows_and_knees
Escrima is the name of the actual sticks used. Arnis is typically what the style is called using the escrima, being as it is a phillipine based art. But with everything else, I'm sure more styles have developed from the original. We incorporated traditional Arnis with our kobudo training as it is a very practical weapon.no, we tend to call them escrima sticks or kalis sticks because we train that art and use a stick in said art.... a stick you use in kali is a kali stick...but it is actually called a baston. Escrima is a spanish word which literally means "fencing"
cathal
the difference is regional, from what I was told in my kali days.kali is of the southern phillipines. As we know, magellan and his spaniards invaded the phillipines. They took kali and combined with their skill of espada y daga and began calling in escrima and arnis. escrima is central and arnis is northern. That is my understanding as well. .The best victory is when the opponent surrendersof its own accord before there are any actualhostilities...It is best to win without fighting.- Sun-tzu
alsey
i've heard escrima sticks being called 'rattans', is that a correct term? "Gently return to the simple physical sensation of the breath. Then do it again, and again, and again. Somewhere in this process, you will come face-to-face with the sudden and shocking realization that you are completely crazy. Your mind is a shrieking, gibbering madhouse on wheels." - ven. henepola gunaratana
Jiffy
Rattan is the material they are made from. The mind is like a parachute, it only works when it's open.
