PrayingMantis Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 I know its my choice on what martial arts styles I pick but researched this style called Southern Praying Mantis I wanna learn this but I wanna if it would be a good style to learn? Ryan Beecher
alsey Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 depends on what exactly you want to learn. different martial artists like different martial arts. for example, if you want to learn ground fighting, mantis probably isn't the way to go.as far as i know, southern mantis is quite a combative style. and that's about all i know. "Gently return to the simple physical sensation of the breath. Then do it again, and again, and again. Somewhere in this process, you will come face-to-face with the sudden and shocking realization that you are completely crazy. Your mind is a shrieking, gibbering madhouse on wheels." - ven. henepola gunaratana
bushido_man96 Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 Do some looking, checking into various schools. Check out the instructors as well, asking questions about how they teach and things like that. It may be a style you want to learn, just make sure you want to learn from that instructor.Enjoy the journey! https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
patusai Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 What is good for one may not be the best for you. I agree with bushido_man96 and find an instructor that you would like to learn from and that you feel comfortable with "Don't tell me the sky's the limit because I have seen footprints on the moon!" -- Paul Brandt
parkerlineage Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 Instructor, environment, and training regiement aside (since you haven't told us about them), I've always loved animal styles, especially southern animal styles. You may find that some techniques are a little impractical, or too tradition rooted, but they're fun and effective anyway.
