alsey Posted September 3, 2006 Posted September 3, 2006 i think aikido is softer, and its japanese. hapkido is korean. "Gently return to the simple physical sensation of the breath. Then do it again, and again, and again. Somewhere in this process, you will come face-to-face with the sudden and shocking realization that you are completely crazy. Your mind is a shrieking, gibbering madhouse on wheels." - ven. henepola gunaratana
CTTKDKing Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 I asked my instructor the same question... "what's the difference between Akido and Hapkido?" and he said think of Hapkido as (even though it's really not) a crossing between Akido and Tang Soo Do. "The key to immortality is first living a life worth remembering."
Jiffy Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 Hmmm, that's an unusual way of explaining it.Aikido generally tends to deal a lot with multiple striking attackers. Hapkido doesn't so much. Hapkido also deals more with grabs, particularly Combat Hapkido.Primary difference..... Japanese vs Korean The mind is like a parachute, it only works when it's open.
