Jiffy
Well, I'm pleased to say, I studied with a Master this weekend!!! Hanshi Tino Ceberano - 9th Dan.Okay, so he doesn't do Shotokan, he does Goju, but it's very similar and what I learned was just amazing!(for info, do google search on "Tino Ceberano". There's heaps)See pic.http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j158/jiffbox/shawn_tino.jpg The mind is like a parachute, it only works when it's open. Akaratechick
nice picture,Is there anything you learned that left a lasting impression on you? I have only been to seminars with masters but got to attend a couple of Dan Inosanto seminars in the past, and I was humbled by his humility as well as his incredible patience in teaching. Not to mention that the guy is in incredible shape for his age or anyones age for that matter. "All your life you are told the things you cannot do. They will say you're not good enough, strong enough or talented enough; you're the wrong height or the wrong weight or the wrong type to play this or achieve this. Zorbasan
i got to go to the last inosanto seminar in adelaide (they still dont have the photos on the website grrr). it was actually my first martial arts seminar, and i loved every minute of it. i would love to go to many more but they are just so expensive. im really disappointed that i missed out on that tino ceberano seminar but it was way above budget.once my new houe is in order i hope to get out to more seminars (hrm, i seem to remember saying the same thing on a cars forum) Now you use head for something other than target. Jiffy
hahaha, yeah, I'm the redhead. (Hanshi Ceberano has been training in Karate for 58 years, so I think there's only one in the photo it could be)I too trained with Dan Inosanto. This was fantastic. Ah, why the heck not, while I'm on me "ego tour", here's a photo of that too.The man was phenominal. His humility and also his experience. Just amazing.http://users.esc.net.au/~aacd/images/photos/shawn_dan.jpg The mind is like a parachute, it only works when it's open.

Jiffy
hehehehe.Oh, to answer the question, apart from actual techniques, here's a couple of notes I made from the seminar."Quick to learn, Quick to forget"CORE - Centre of Reserve EnergyEven a 65 year old can do a good Jodan Yoko-Geri KekomiEven a 65 year old can do 10 straight arm push ups in a row.A yawara with points is actually a "Theraputic Remedial Stick".... it will remedy any situation you get yourself into.To study Karate-Do is no longer enough, we need to research back to the roots and find the Karate-Jitsu that once was. We need to question and elevate our martial arts."Grades mean nothing. I'm a 9th Dan and yet I must bow to 10th Dans with half the experience I have. Oh Well" The mind is like a parachute, it only works when it's open.
