KarateK Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 Ahhh its that time again - grading on Sunday. Am taking blue belt 5th kyu.Am very concerned, as some of you know I have been away from training for some time due to a knee injury. As such I have had about 3 weeks in which to prepare for this grading. I know I know everything that is expected of me but I am concerned that I will not be able to grade at same level as I have in the past. I know that my marks arent the be all and end all but I like to know for myself I have done well. Am just going to have to try my best. Although added to the fact that I am a 4th kyu normally, and have regraded from white due to a gap in training, everyone pretty much expects me to do well - I feel like shouting I WAS 11 WHEN I DID THIS LAST!!! Anyway - rant over!! Karate Ni Sentinashi

ladyj Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 Relax. You don't have to prove anything to anyone but yourself. Stay focused on the task at hand.

KarateK Posted July 31, 2006 Author Posted July 31, 2006 Am furious with myself, I dropped 6 marks from last grading, lost a point because I made face contact while sparring (with my best friend actually! I was sparring for her benefit, she's a lower grade - whoops!)I jarred my knee during the first section and it went downhill from there. My kicks were awful, as expected really due to my knee. I thought my stances and kata etc were ok so wasnt surprised at getting the average grade.Anyway its done now so just got to move on. Am taking a break though as I think I pushed my knee to far too quickly, I had literally about 6 lessons to get ready for grading. After they read out my marks I went to the toilet and had a good old cry! I actually came 2nd in the overall grading for my level but was just appalled by my marks. One sensei did come up to me and just said that I did remarkably well considering I was on crutches 2 months ago. I also know that as my mum and her partner were two of the examiners that I do get marked down as a result of not showing favouritism - so I tend to have to work doubly hard to get good marks. And yes we are going to Seni next year - have pursuaded a few of the guys to go a long so we can car share. Should be great. Karate Ni Sentinashi
