Shakeyhands Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 Great thread!!! I sparred with a TKD student yesterday and had a blast, she kicked me primarily in my rear end as I am new to this and man is it sore today!
bushido_man96 Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 think of Tang Soo Do as Tae Kwon Do only more traditional. and TKD beign the most popular martial art in the world. TSD isn't a nad choice...however it all comes down to how you train!!!This depends on the TKD school in question. I think my school is very "traditional." We are not a WTF school, which is what I think you might be getting at. However, I think that WTF could be traditional as well. What exactly is your definition of "more traditional?" I am curious. Thanks in advance! https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
Syphax Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 Tang Soo Do is not necessarily more traditional than Tae Kwan Do. It depends on the individual instructors. This idea was spread mostly because TKD was formed the react to Hwan Kee's growing success in Korea with TSDMDK.
johnboy Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 Ive reserched it in my student manual and TSD and TKD acually started near the same time, the only difference is TSD started as a martial art and TKD started as a sport and they got more different from there.P.S. How do you change the icon from white belt to green belt? Cause thats what I am. John-to the-Boy: 5th gup, TSD
aefibird Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 P.S. How do you change the icon from white belt to green belt? Cause thats what I am.John, the little coloured belt under a persons user name changes colour the more you post. New members start out as a white belt, working through various colours, until you reach 1000 posts, by which time the belt icon will change to black. It's just a fun system of showing who has posted a lot and who hasn't posted as much. "Was it really worth it? Only time and death may ever tell..." Snohomish Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 TSD is a great martial art, but all instruction is based upon who is instructing it. I would have loved to have Grand Master Norris as my instructor.
granmasterchen Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 where are you located, just curious as I trained under chuck and have worked years with many of his students that now teach That which does not destroy me will only make me stronger
bushido_man96 Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 TSD is a great martial art, but all instruction is based upon who is instructing it.I agree with you here. Most of the time, regardless of style, whether many stay or go is reliant on the instructor's approach to teaching. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
johnboy Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 I agree that it all depends on the teacher, I attened East Mississippi Tang Soo Do and at the region 6 championship (which includes Mississippi, Alabama, Tennesse, and Louisiana) everyone in my class placed , including me, I got gold:) John-to the-Boy: 5th gup, TSD
