alsey Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 i've decided to give judo a try. now here's my problem: basically i spend half of my year at university and half of it home. the judo club at my uni is affiliated to the british judo association, while the judo club near my home is affiliated to the british judo council. the british judo association is affiliated to the british olympic association and sounds great, but the british judo council i can't really seem to find anything out about it.does anyone know about the differences between these two bodies? would training under both bodies at different times during the year cause problems? ps1 Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 The best people to ask would be the instructors of those respective dojo. If it is not a problem for those instructors...then it is not a problem for you. The only thing you may have trouble with is rank promotion. Each instructor will only see you for a limited time. Therefore you may progress through the ranks very slowly. In the end, Judo is Judo. For the most part most schools teach the same techniques, the tactics may be different, but that would be to your advantage. bushido_man96 Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 I would guess that you could be a member of both bodies, and then you would be able to attain events for both. The only thing would be having rank in two styles, which might get icky. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
Bellerophon Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 BJA (British judo association) is the best but it wouldn't be a major drama trainig under both (except maybe paying two membership fees). I've done judo since i was 8 (now mid 20's) and never heard of British judo council but i havent done mush judo in last 3 years
alsey Posted August 22, 2006 Author Posted August 22, 2006 well i'll find out soon enough. i have a jujitsu grading tomorrow, then i think i'm going to check out the BJC club. then in about a month i'll be checking out the BJA club. switching between governing bodies is something that's bothered me ever since i started MA. in jujitsu its really impeded my progress. hopefully the two organisations will recognise eachother to some degree.
