Any info on Jeff Speakman?

I think he was a student of Ed Parker's, but I am not sure. I am pretty sure he is a kenpo guy, though. The Perfect Weapon is an ok movie, and so was Street Knight (I think is what it was called).

Other than that, I don't know much about him. Don't know why, but it just popped into my head the other day. Thanks.

I had a chance to meet Mr. Speakman one time and he seemed to be a nice guy. Not one I would want to cross and one that seemed to know his stuff.

He was first a student of Lou Angel and Hanshi Angel then referred Mr. Speakman to Ed Parker.

He's a student of SGM Parker by association - a lot of people didn't necissarily train with Parker consistently, but had some lessons, and were allowed to call themselves first generation black belts. I haven't ever researched Speakman, but that may be possible.

Not that it makes him any less of a martial artist.

I have heard several times that he moved to CA from Missouri to train with GM Parker in Pasadena.

I have personally met Jeff a couple of times.

He is a really nice guy. So humble, yet sooooo good!!

He studied directly under Mr Parker and was one of the most senior students. He took over Mr Parker's school when he died, but due to politics, the various top students went their own way. The Ed Parker badge was never used again, but Jeff now uses a similar one.

Jeff also has a 6th Dan (I think) in Karate. (Japanese)

I remember when I was at ATA Instructor certification camp. On breakfast of the first day, Grandmaster H.U. Lee and Grandmaster Bong Soo Han (I think is his name?) of Hapkido sat at the table with me and a few others. THAT was cool. I was so quiet though, I could not think of much to say or ask. If I could go back, I would chew their ears off with questions.

Speakman is either a 6th or a 7th dan in Goju under Lou Angel..also with his Kenpo 6th dan.

I don't know if saying he is a Japanese goju guy is totally correct since this is of Urban lineage. Don't get me wrong, Peter Urban is/was a traditional karateka in every sense of the word and one bad mamma jamma but he changed much of what he was taught in a more "americanized" way.

I have nothing but respect for Urban's karate but I'm not sure if calling this Japanese karate would be totally correct, too. In my opinion Lou Angel even "Americanized" it more than Urban, too.
